In a traditional Taiwanese wedding there are many different rituals, some are always done, like the throwing of the fan here on that picture, and others vary. I have shot many Taiwanese weddings over the years but still there have never seen two identical weddings following the same exact ceremony. There’s always something new, or different, makes things more interesting for me!

To go back to the fan tradition, as the bride leaves the house she would carry two fans (sometimes only one), they represent the good habits and the bad habits.
As the car starts to leave the bride’s house, she would then throw away the fan, as a way to show she’s leaving the bad habits behind.

Recently at a wedding the brother of the groom asked me if I knew the meaning of that tradition, I told him I did, and I also told him that my wife must have thrown away the wrong fan…

Have a nice day!
