This is Jessie…
I like this photo, the kind I like. I used to think there are not that many ways to take wedding photos, not so many styles. I have seen and met many people and photographers and realised that wedding photography comes in so many flavours.
I shoot pre-wedding photos and also of course wedding days. I started to shoot wedding days as we do in Europe and applied that way of working to shooting pre-wedding : work fast and adapt !
On a wedding day the pressure is on and time is limited, you need to be efficient and fast. you will never see me ( or hear me! ) counting to three, don’t have time for that 😉 by the time you count to three I have already taken three photos, hey I’m working here 🙂
Move around the subject, search and find the right angle, the light…
On a wedding day you work with what you have : it may be a good weather or pouring down the rain ( hey I worked in England…), the reception, the church might be dark or bright, anything goes and my job is to go along and take great photos along the way.
And the best skill for all that is adaptability.
So to go back to that photo of Jessie, let me show you the “studio” in which it was taken…
Yes, in my Peugeot 206!!! As we left the place she sat on the passenger seat, I saw her and thought : “looks good”, tight crop, I played with the colours a little but there’s no photoshop here ; the secret is to find the right angle at the right moment.
Good luck,
Nico
