Lesotho, part 1 : Her name is Moabi

Lesotho

One of the poorest country in the world and with an appaling high level of HIV/AIDS, looking at the statistics is about Lesotho is depressing to say the least, but meeting with its people is an enriching and humbling experience.

Her name is Moabi, she is a Basotho woman living in Lesotho, a small country within South Africa.
She lives with her 3 grandchildren, both her own children are gone, victim of HIV and poverty, to make the matter worse Moabi is disabled, cannot use her lower legs and has to move on her knees.

The amazing thing about Moabi is that she faces life with dignity and courage, what would seem an insurmountable task to anybody, is daily life for her.

she uses a bag to cover the mud and cross over it,

Traditional cooking pot

Cooking with the help of her grandson, behind is the traditional Lesotho house.

Moabi is cooking Papa, the staple food in Lesotho, corn meal boiled in water is  what most people live on with a few vegetables and, from time to time, some protein.

and this is what the place looked liked after 15mn of rain

The neighbours !

Swiping the floor as her grandson is sleeping on the floor in the back, curled up in an old blanket

Her granddaughter is helping with the cooking

 her grandson just woke up…

Sometimes we are lucky enough to meet great people, who inspire us the become a better person,  I met Moabi

Help them and support the fantastic work that Worlvision and other NGO are doing in Lesotho.
